Here's one of my most closely guarded referral secrets, one that brings in 10-25% of all my cash-in-hand customers, in good times and bad.
You can -- and should -- start using this method TODAY, unless there's some legal reason that prevents you.
Here it is.
Most competitors of my resume writing service (and competitors in your industry, I'll bet) offer paltry discounts on future orders to "thank" customers for referring their friends.
How lame can you get? In effect, this says to clients: "Send me new customers and to thank you, I'll take a slightly smaller profit the next time you buy something from me."
Instead, I pay cash money for referrals. I offer a $10 reward for each new buyer that a current client refers to me.
To get the message out about my cash "reward" for referrals, I do the following:
- put this referral reward in thank-you messages that I email to clients after the first sale;
- give cards to clients with the $10 reward printed on them;
- print the reward on all of my receipts and diskette labels, and
- remind clients during every phone conversation after the first sale.
Think of it like this:
If it costs you $25 for each client you get through the Yellow Pages and $15 for each one you get from a classified ad, paying $10 for referrals is a bargain.
So find out what the best price is to pay for your new clients, then spread the word!
Referrals are like found money. And they're essential, too, because a certain percentage of your clients will always move to a new city or switch to another business, no matter how well you think you're serving them.
This simple secret -- paying for referrals -- can boost your profits by 10%, 20%, 30% -- or more -- year after year.
