Since 1966 I've provided graphic design and illustration. Then in 1981 my offering grew to include branding and writing. In addition, I served in the creative departments of several ad agencies. Listen for creative direction in the briefest of discussions about an upcoming job.
Creative direction needn't always be a long process. Here the solution came quite quickly and only required some close consideration to make sure it did the right job. The idea came from my client in a single phone call. She just said that something elegant was needed to supplement the name of a very classy line of copper pots. Maybe the desired feeling could be achieved by styling the typography. After agreeing upon the approach, I chose a type face, re-drew a few letters and made some flowing connections to achieve a design that reflects the character Brabant Copper.




The correct creative advocation is give and take for the sake of memorability.
Never throw a good concept out because of a little stutter. One hint of illegibility is a small price to pay for memorable identity. Campaign For Global Security. That's quite a long name for just one logo. The usual place to start would have been the initials, CGS. Or, a symbol to accompany the name which could appear in small type.
         Instead, because what the words stand for are so strong, the client's preference was to weave distinction into the lettering itself. In addition, the concept could function quicker as one compact and balanced typographical unit. The final tally for this design negotiation is as follows: In exchange for a less than perfect "g" and "i", our logo gained the internationally recognized icon of a peace dove carrying an olive branch.
