Stock images are existing illustrations and photographs that can be purchased for use as needed.
by Andy Attiliis

Thanks to participation by thousands of artists, both the quality and variety available is extraordinary. In addition, the marketplace recognizes and has compensated for differences in the useage needs of every size organization. Therefore, regardless of budget, most diligent searches will yield a viable image solution.
Web access is the facilitator that has allowed businesses to take advantage of a far greater range of picture values and options than have ever been known before. It has converted today's market into a virtual imaging outlet mall. A picturesque place where every business can feel confident about finding just the right visual for just the right price. That's because one image can be sold over and over at a price which is appropriate to each situation. Conflict of interest is rarely a concern because the audiences are relatively small. In general, only if the image is used in a national or very long-term communication will a buyer want to consider purchasing exclusive rights.
How interesting it is to note that many artists have historically made a living by satisfying the specific aesthetic agendas of others. That is, they have been commissioned to create defined subject matter for such entities as both church and state. In recent times, a new trend is emerging whereby some artists are creative directing there own work in anticipation of satisfying the commercial messages which they feel will be needed. More than ninety percent of the illustrations found here were done soley for stock useage. They depict such subjects as search engines, new relationships between telephone and computer, and ways that the Web is increasing interaction between people everywhere. The balance were originally conceived for assignments and self promotion.

Andy Attiliis has served as art director for three advertising agencies. Since becoming an independent professional in 1981, he has been hired by nearly every type of business organization. With focused concentration on improving the continuity of a message’s concept and quality, he has often performed multiple creative functions on a single project. His additional experience as a creative director, designer, illustrator and writer have made him an extremely efficient single source art director/creative provider. The kinds of communications for which he has provided art direction range from ads to newsletters, brandings to Web sites.
