Get the most out of two colors When solid purple overprints solid green, black is the resulting third color. With today's printing registration being more precise than ever before, the opportunities to mix colors are greater. The caution here is one of time. Because a smart designer can produce a vast range of intricate tint mixtures out of just two colors, the process can become self-defeating. At some point the cost for time for such services could surpass the price of using full process color to begin with. A good rule of thumb is to limit the combinations to those that have the greatest impact from both a communication and a cosmetic standpoint.
Be sure your cover's long title is in a position to be read. Long titles often do the best job possible. They're just not as quick to read or comprehend. Rather than making them secondary to other elements on the cover, it makes sense to place them in the topmost position. Such a design strategy helps ensure that the entire concept is absorbed as quickly as possible.
